Detailed description of Highlands Golf Course, CLOSED 2017

Highlands Golf Course is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The course, designed by Donald Ross, first opened for play in 1908.

The property hosted a Senior PGA Tour event for eight years in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees. the course plays to 6,453 yards. From the forward tees. the course plays to a par-75 and measures 5,541 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 5, a par-5 that plays to 562 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 17, a par-3 that plays to 154 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 14, a 422-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Highlands Golf Course is # 8, a 176 yard par-3.

This 6,453-yard beauty plays to a 135 slope by punishing errant tee shots and handsomely rewarding patient iron play. And once you’ve reached the green, stay focused, because you’ll soon be convinced you’re playing a tour-quality course. The greens roll brutally honest and lightning fast, so staying below the hole is the key to scoring well.

The course closed in 2017.

Highlands Golf Course was owned by The Elks until 2011 when it was sold to Steve Scheuermann. Steve sold the property to Third Coast Development for $2.6 million on February 1, 2017. Within less than a week, the developer immediately sold the property for about $3.5 million to Blandford Nature Center and the Land Conservancy of West Michigan. The organizations plan to restore the course to nature, develop trails and create public programs.
